Searching transactions
Find any transaction by typing what you mean. The register search understands dates, money in or out, cleared status, categories, labels, and amounts — and searches everything else as plain text.
In this guide
- Which words the search box turns into filters, and how they combine.
- Finding transactions by amount with over, under, and exactly (or >, <, =).
- How free text, categories, and labels are matched, plus the Uncleared and Uncategorized quick filters.
Every account register and All Transactions has a search box above the table. Type what you're looking for — groceries last month, outflows over 100, uncleared — and Budgero turns the words it recognises into filters. Each recognised filter shows up as a chip under the box; click its × to drop it. Whatever is left over is searched as plain text.
All filters combine: Dining out last month over 30 shows Dining out transactions from last month above 30.
The filter words are English keywords, whatever language the app is in.
Dates
| You type | Shows |
|---|---|
today, yesterday | That day |
this week, last week | The week so far, or all of last week |
this month, last month | The month so far, or all of last month |
this year, last year | The year so far, or all of last year |
last 30 days (any number) | The last N days up to today |
A date word also moves the register's date range at the top of the page, so the table loads the right period. Weeks start on the day set in Settings → Budget Settings → First day of the week.
Money in, money out, transfers
inflows, inflow, orincome— money coming in (transfers excluded).outflows, outflow, expenses, expense, orspending— money going out (transfers excluded).transfersortransfer— only transfers between your accounts.
Cleared status
cleared— cleared transactions, including reconciled ones.uncleared— transactions you haven't cleared yet.reconciled— only reconciled transactions.
You can also write them as is:cleared, is:uncleared, and is:reconciled. Scheduled recurring rows (the projected ones) never match a status.
Amounts
Search by amount with a comparison word or symbol in front of the number:
| You type | Finds amounts |
|---|---|
over 50, above 50, >50 | Greater than 50 |
under 20, below 20, <20 | Less than 20 |
exactly 42.50, equal 42.50, =42.50 | 42.50 (to the cent) |
- Ranges: combine both ends —
over 20 under 50. - Direction doesn't matter: an amount filter compares the size of the transaction, whether it's money in or out. Add
outflowsorinflowsto narrow it down. - Currency: amounts are compared in the currency the register shows (account or budget currency, from the toggle above the table). A leading
$,€, or£is allowed:over €100. - Number format: use a dot for decimals and no thousands separators —
=1250.50, not=1.250,50or=1,250.50. - A number on its own is text, not an amount:
42.50looks for "42.50" in memos and payees. Use=42.50to find the amount.
Categories and labels
- Type a category name to show only that category. Names with spaces go in quotes:
"Dining out". While you type, Budgero suggests matching categories; pick one to add it. Add several categories to see any of them. - Use
label:for labels:label:Vacation, orlabel:"Work trip"for names with spaces.
Plain text
Anything the search doesn't recognise is matched against the memo, payee, category, label, and account of each transaction, ignoring upper and lower case. pharmacy finds "City Pharmacy" as a payee or a memo.
Quick filters
Next to the search, the Uncleared and Uncategorized buttons show how many such transactions there are and filter to them in one click. On an account page, Shift+C and Shift+U toggle them from the keyboard — see Keyboard shortcuts.
